The day before the Boston Marathon, course records fell in
Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Paris; and Vienna.
In the Rotterdam Marathon, Yemane Adhane of Ethiopia pulled
away from his countryman Getu Feleke in the final mile to win the men’s race by
two seconds in 2 hours 4 minutes 48 seconds. Tiki Gelana of Ethiopia won the
women’s race in a record 2:18:58, the fastest time of the year.
In Paris, records fell to Stanley Biwott of Kenya (2:05:11)
and Beyene Tirfi (2:21:40).
In Vienna, Henry Sugut of Kenya won in 2:06:58. In an
exhibition half-marathon, Haile Gebrselassie beat Paula Radcliffe despite
starting 7:52 after her — the difference in their personal bests.
