Dr. Mesert Chekol dies after a battle with liver cancer

Dr. Mesert Chekol, one of the most distinguished Ethiopian Professors of Journalism and Communications,  the author of “The Quest for Press Freedom One Hundred Years of History of the Media in Ethiopia” and a famous Ethiopianist  dies after a battle with liver cancer.

Meseret was a teacher in the Department of Journalism at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He received his Ph.D. in mass communication and a master’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota.  In the 1980s he served as a radio journalist for eight years in  Ethiopia. Dr. Meseret had been tirelessly serving the Ethiopian community thorough out his life – always anchored in his deep sense of love for and uncompromising commitment to his beloved Ethiopia.
