Stratex International, the AIM-listed gold miner, reported that it had seen promising results from its current drilling programme at the Megenta hot spring epithermal gold prospect, in the Afar region of Ethiopia.
The company said that it had intersected a broad near-surface zone of 43.55 m grading at 0.67 g/t gold at Hole MG-DD-10 and promising grab samples have also been collected from the Akehil prospect about 9 km away from Megenta.
“We regard the MG-DD-10 hole as possibly the best result so far from the Megenta drilling programme, with nearly the longest intercepts at the highest grades. Best intercepts from the hole include a 7.25 m stretch grading at 0.79 g/t gold and a 5 m interval at 2.69 g/t gold,” David Hall, executive director of Stratex East Africa, said.
The hole is located on the western edge of the Hyena zone. Hall said that he believed the results were encouraging enough to warrant further drilling into the system.
Early this month, Stratex International saw shares shoot up following its announcement of "significant results" from drilling at its Megenta hot spring gold discovery in Ethiopia.
The company said that it had found new high grade samples at the nearby Akehil gold prospect.
Stratex International, along with its partner Thani Ashanti, had said the latest drilling data confirmed bonanza grades were present in epithermal veins in the region and in response its shares jumped 12 percent higher.
