Allana Potash begins environmental study for Danakhil project in Ethiopia

Toronto-based Allana Potash Corp. (CVE:AAA) reported Wednesday that it has initiated an environmental and social impact study for its Danakhil potash project in Ethiopia.
Danakhil rests in Ethiopia’s northeastern Danakil depression, covering 150 square kilometres. The study, to be completed by consulting firm Environmental Resources Mangement by the third-quarter of 2012, will form an integral part of the feasibility study, which the company plans to start shortly. The environmental assessment will begin immediately with a camp expansion to accommodate staff. The company said that Environmental Resources will also provide guidance on environmental, as well as social programs compliant with the International Finance Corporation and World Bank standards. Environmental Resources has conducted similar studies on a range of mining projects, including for clients Anglo American and Northern Peru Copper Company. "This is an important development for Allana and we look forward to working with Environmental Resources Management as our project advances to production,” said CEO of Allana, Farhad Abasov. Ethiopian environmental consulting firms, such as Beles Engineering, will also be involved in the study.
