RICHFIELD, Minn. (KMSP) -
Police confirmed a husband and father is dead after an early morning stabbing in a Richfield, Minn., home on Sunday, but they won't say what led to the attack or who may be responsible.
The assault took place at a home on the 7300 block of 12th Avenue S. Officers responded to the scene at 4:53 a.m. and located a 48-year-old man who had sustained multiple puncture wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene; however, his name has not been released.
Two people -- a man and a woman -- were brought to the Richfield Police Department for questioning. Another woman was brought to an area hospital for medial treatment and will also be held for questioning.
No arrests have been made, and police say they are not looking for any additional suspects. Richfield Police Department officials stressed that there is no apparent danger to the community.
Yet, neighbors near the scene were startled by the commotion and grim revelation that a member of their community was killed.
"I don't' feel well," Ilene Holen told Fox 9 News. "I feel very shaken."
Holen awoke to the sounds of sirens, and said she couldn't believe what she saw at her neighbor's house.
"This is a wonderful neighborhood -- a quiet little Richfield neighborhood where we have lived for 48 years," she said.
Although police won't say who stabbed the 48-year-old homeowner to death, Holen said he had lived in the home for the past 6 or 7 years.
"Just the kindest people," Holen said of her neighbors.
According to Holen, the family is Ethiopian and the homeowner's wife just came to the United States within the last year with their two children, both under the age of 4.
"They have two adorable children," Holen said. "They don't speak English, but they have learned one English word -- and that's 'bubbles' because I blow bubbles for them in the driveway. They will knock on my door -- 'Bubbles! Bubbles!' So, we blow bubbles."
Holen told Fox 9 News the victim's sister also lives in the basement of the home, and the Holens attended her wedding.
"It's beyond words. I can't express myself because it hasn't sunk in," she said. "It's a reality -- it's unbelievable. It's not one of the things you would ever, ever imagine would happen."
In all of her years with the family, Holen said she never saw any sign of trouble -- only a loving family. In the absence of information from police, she believes her neighbor must have been protecting his family.
