Yemen seeks to buy electricity from Ethiopia

SabaSANA'A, June 17 (Saba) - Yemen and Ethiopia discussed here on Monday areas of joint cooperation between, especially in the electricity field and the ways to upgrade it to the level of a true partnership.

This came in a meeting gathered Minister of Electricity and Energy Saleh Sumaia and Ethiopian ambassador to Yemen Hasan Abdullah Ali, who discussed the possibility of Yemen to benefit from the surplus Ethiopia's power at a reasonable price.

They also reviewed the problems Yemen's electricity sector suffered from and the causes of the country's power shortage as well as the Ministry's efforts to tackle them.



Sumaia accented Yemen's keenness to establish strong cooperation relations with Ethiopia in the field of electricity.

The Ethiopian ambassador expressed the Ethiopian government's desire to strengthen relations with Yemen in various areas, including power.

He pointed that his country sells electricity to a number of neighboring countries, saying that Yemen has to make an official request to the Ethiopian government on this matter to be discussed through official frameworks between the two countries.
