It was the latest in a series of criminal acts by Ethiopian maids against their employer’s children in the Gulf Kingdom. The attacks over the past two months have prompted Riyadh to stop hiring domestic workers from the east African country.
Newspapers on Saturday said the boy was on the verge of suffocating to death when the maid shut the garage door on his neck at their house in the central town of Shaqra.
“His mother rushed and pulled him out after hearing him scream as the maid stood watching…when she asked him what happened, he said the maid asked him to put his head under the door and look out of the garage before she locked the door on him.”
Alsaudeh Arabic language daily said police arrested the maid after the boy’s mother reported Wednesday’s incident.
More than two million domestic helpers work in Saudi Arabia, mostly from Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia.
