BRUSSELS — Ethiopia will have its Olympic trials for the
men’s 10,000 meters at the FBK Games in the Netherlands on May 27.
Agent Jos Hermens said Wednesday that the top two Ethiopian
runners in that race will automatically qualify for the London Games, while the
federation will keep its options of filling the third spot for the
long-distance race.
Haile Gebrselassie was already slated to run that race and
even though the 1996 and 2000 Olympic champion stands little choice to make the
top two, his agent Hermens said “he will not say no if he gets through.”
Kenenisa Bekele, who won the last two Olympic races, will
not compete in the FBK Games and will likely fill the third slot.
