Ethiopian Airlines and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have signed
a codeshare agreement, which will take effect on November 1.
From 1 November, Singapore Airlines’ customers will have the
option of flying to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital city, on flights operated
by future Star Alliance member Ethiopian Airlines.
Under the codeshare agreement, SIA will add its ‘SQ’ code to
Ethiopian Airlines-operated flights flying daily between Dubai and Addis Ababa.
On a reciprocal basis, Ethiopian Airlines will add its ‘ET’
code to seven SIA-operated flights per week between Singapore and Dubai. SIA
servesDubai International Airport with 11 flights per week.
Ethiopian Airlines is currently working towards membership in
the Star Alliance, which will enable Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer members to
accrue frequent-flyer miles when travelling on Ethiopian’s flights. Ethiopian’s
Sheba Miles members will also be able to accrue miles when travelling on SIA’s
flights.
Tickets for the codeshare flights are already available for
sale, for travel from November 1.
Ethiopian’s daily Addis Ababa-Dubai flight ET602 will also
be given the SIA flight number SQ6402, while flight ET603 in the opposite
direction will also be given the flight number SQ6403.
Singapore Airlines’ flight SQ495 between Dubai and
Singapore, which operates every day except Saturday, will also now acquire the
Ethiopian Airlines flight number ET1300. SIA’s Dubai-Singapore flight SQ493 on
Saturdays will also acquire the ET1300 fligth number.
In the other direction, Singapore Airlines’ daily flight
SQ494 between Singapore and Dubai will also be given the flight number ET1301.
