Fourteen Eritrean footballers disappear in Uganda

KAMPALA (Reuters) – At least 14 members of the Eritrea football squad have disappeared in Uganda while playing in a regional tournament and may eventually claim asylum, Ugandan officials said on Monday.
Eritrea is one of the world’s most secretive states ruled by a reclusive president. This year United Nations human rights chief Navi Pillay accused the Asmara government of meting out summary executions, torture and detaining thousands of political prisoners.

Dec 3 (Reuters) - Ethiopia has asked African football's governing body to move its African Nations Championship qualifiers with arch-foe Eritrea to a neutral venue, with the neighboring countries still embroiled in a bitter border row, its FA said.

ዓቃቤ ሕጉ ባቀረበው ክስ ላይ ተከሳሾች ላቀረበው መቃወሚያ ምላሽ ከመስጠታቸው በፊት፣ ጠበቆች የሚያቀርቡት አቤቱታ እንዳላቸው ፍርድ ቤቱን ጠይቀው ተፈቅዶላቸዋል፡፡ ጠበቆቹ ባቀረቡት አቤቱታ ተጠርጣሪ ደንበኞቻቸው በሕግ ከለላ ሥር እያሉና ተጠርጥርው በተከሰሱበት ክስ ጥፋተኛ ተብለው በፍርድ ቤት እስካልተወሰነባቸው ድረስ ነፃ ሆነው የመታሰብ ሕገ መንግሥታዊ መብታቸውን የሚያሳጣ ዘገባ በኢትዮጵያ ሬዲዮ፣ ቴሌቪዥንና በዛሚ ኮሙዩኒኬሽን ኤፍኤም ሬዲዮ እየተላለፈ በመሆኑ፣ ፍርድ ቤቱ እንዲያስቆምላቸው ጠይቀዋል፡፡ በዕለቱ በነበረው ችሎት ውስጥ የተጠቀሱት ሚዲያዎች ዘጋቢዎች ካሉም እንዲያስወጣላቸው ጠየቁ፡፡ በወንጀል ክስ እንደሚመሠርቱም አስታወቁ፡፡

ባለፈው ወር በድሬዳዋ ከተማ በተካሄደው 18ኛው የኢትዮጵያ ጥናት ዓለም አቀፍ ጉባዔ የተሳተፉ ኢትዮጵያውያንና የውጭ አገር ምሁራን፣ በኢጣሊያ አፊሌ ከተማ የተገነባው የፋሺስት ጦር ወንጀለኛው ሩዶልፍ ግራዚያኒ ሐውልት እንዲፈርስ ወይም እንዲለወጥ የኢጣሊያ መንግሥትን ጠየቁ፡፡

ከመላው ዓለም ከ26 አገሮች የተውጣጡት 300 ምሁራን ከጥቅምት 19 ቀን እስከ ጥቅምት 23 ቀን 2005 ዓ.ም. ያካሄዱትን 18ኛው የኢትዮጵያ ጥናት ዓለም አቀፍ ጉባዔ ሲያጠናቅቁ ያወጡትን መግለጫ፣ ለአገሪቱ ፕሬዚዳንት ጂኦርጂዮ ናፖሊታኖ እና ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ማሪዮ ሞንቲ በላኩት ደብዳቤ አሳውቀዋል፡፡

በጉባዔው የተሳተፉት ታዋቂው የታሪክ ፕሮፌሰር ባሕሩ ዘውዴ ለሪፖርተር በኢሜይል የላኩት የደብዳቤው ቅጅ እንደሚያመለክተው፣ የኢጣሊያ ፋሺዝም በኢትዮጵያና ቀደም ብሎም በሊቢያ ላይ ላደረሰው ግፍ በአሥር ሺዎች ለሚቆጠሩ አፍሪካውያን እልቂት ተጠያቂው ግራዚያኒ ነው፡፡ ግራዚያኒ ለሙሶሎኒ ኢትዮጵያን ከሕዝቧ ጋር አሊያም ኢትዮጵያን ብቻ›› አበረክትልሃለሁ ማለቱን ያስታወሰው ደብዳቤው፣ ይህንኑ ተግባራዊ ለማድረግ በሺዎች የሚቆጠሩ ኢትዮጵያውያንን በመርዝ ጋዝ ፈጅቷል፡፡

የግራዚያኒ ፍጅት

በተለይም ጎልቶ የሚታወቀው ‹‹የግራዚያኒ ፍጅት›› የካቲት 12 ቀን 1929 ዓ.ም. የሰላማውያን ኢትዮጵያ ዘግናኝ እልቂት ትኩረቱን በተማሩ ወጣት ኢትዮጵያውያን ላይም ማነጣጠሩን፣ በግንቦት ወርም የመካከለኛው ዘመን ገዳም በሆነው ደብረ ሊባኖስ 300 መነኮሳትና ሌሎች 20 ኢትዮጵያውያንም መጨፍጨፉን አስታውሷል፡፡

ግራዚያኒ በሕይወት ቢኖር ኖሮ በአፍሪካ ለፈጸመው ግፍ ያለ ጥርጥር በዓለም አቀፉ የጦር ወንጀለኞች ችሎት እንዲቀርብ ይደረግ ነበር በማለት የገለጸው የምሁራኑ ደብዳቤ፣ በበርካቶች አፍሪካውያን ደም እጁ ለጨቀየው ግራዚያኒ ከሕዝብ በተሰበሰበ ገንዘብ ሐውልት እንዲተከልለት መደረጉ ሰለባዎችን መስደብ መኾኑን አጽንዖት ሰጥቶበታል፡፡

የኢትዮጵያ ጥናት ዓለም አቀፍ ጉባዔ ከ53 ዓመታት በፊት እንዲጀመር ኢጣሊያውያን ምሁራን ያደረጉት ታላቅ አስተዋጽኦ የዘከሩት ጉባዔተኞቹ፣ ይህም በሁለቱም አገሮች ሕዝቦችና መንግሥታት መካከል መልካም ግንኙነት እንዲፈጠር ቢያስችልም፣ ይሁን እንጂ በጦር ወንጀለኛነትና ጨካኝነቱ ለተረጋገጠው ግራዚያኒ ሐውልት እንዲታነጽለት መደረጉ ግንኙነቱን እንዳያጨናግፈው ሥጋታቸውን ገልጸዋል፡፡

በመሆኑም ይህን ተግባር በጥብቅ በመቃወም አቋማቸውን ከገለጹ ኢጣሊያውያንና ኢትዮጵያውያን ጋር ያላቸውን አንድነት በመግለጽ፣ የግራዚያኒ አሳፋሪ ሐውልት ወይ ይፍረስ አሊያም በ10 ሺዎች ለሚቆጠሩት የግራዚያኒ ሰለባዎች መታሰቢያ በሚሆን መልኩ እንዲስተካከል ጥሪያቸውን አቅርበዋል፡፡

በተጨማሪም የኢጣሊያ መንግሥት በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ በጦር ወንጀለኛነት ለተፈረጁ አንዳች ዓይነት መታሰቢያና ክብር እንዳይሰጣቸው የሚያደርግ ሕግ እንዲደነግግም ተማጽነዋል፡፡ ለኢጣሊያ ፕሬዚዳንትና ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር የተላከው ደብዳቤ ግልባጭም ለፕሬዚዳንት ግርማ ወልደ ጊዮርጊስ፣ ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ኃይለ ማርያም ደሳለኝ፣ በኢትዮጵያ ለኢጣሊያ አምባሳደር ሬንዞ ሮሶ እና ለኢጣሊያ የአፍሪካ ጥናቶች ማኅበር መላኩን ለማወቅ ተችሏል፡፡

Army vet who shot Ethiopian girlfriend Tigist Yemane found not guilty by reason of insanity

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three years after the murder of a young woman who came to America for life-saving surgery, the man charged with killing her was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Tigist Yemane was born in southern Ethiopia.
As a teenager, she struggled to survive with a heart defect that couldn't be treated in her country.
That's what first brought Yemane to America. A Charlotte doctor got her a temporary visa to the United States, so she could get her live-saving surgery.
For Yemane, the visa was the chance of a new life. After her surgery, she went home to Ethiopia then returned to the U.S. to try to make a life for herself.
“My contact with her was divine. She came here and said immediately nobody had ever loved and treated her like this. And we became family,” said the Rev. Loretta Caldwell, a friend.
It wasn’t easy. She was homeless for years and ended up in a local ministry that takes in homeless women.
Over the next two years Yemane, now her in 20s, got a visa and a job. That's when she started dating Davon Thomas, the man who killed her.
A judge found Thomas not guilty in the murder, by reason of insanity. He is an Army veteran who served in Iraq and was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Doctors said Thomas believed Muslims were going to launch an attack on this country. Thomas' parents said when they found him beating Yemane in 2009, he accused her of being a Muslim spy.
He then shot and killed her.
"I know God placed her in my life for a reason and to think someone could take that away so easily is hard,” said a friend.
While the charges against Thomas have been dismissed, he will be committed to a state 24-hour facility for the mentally ill.
He cannot be released unless he can prove in court that he is no longer a danger to others.

EX-'GENERAL HOSPITAL' STAR Ethiopian Senait Ashenafi Booted Off Airplane -- Arrested for Public Intoxication

Former "General Hospital" star Senait Ashenafi is the passenger from hell -- TMZ has learned, she was arrested at a Dallas airport for public intoxication last weekend ... after allegedly raising a drunken ruckus on board an airplane.

According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, 46-year-old Ashenafi was arrested at DFW airport when police determined she was so drunk ... she was a danger to herself and others.

Sources on board the airplane tell us, Ashenafi threw a fit while everyone was boarding because she was stuck in coach ... instead of first class.

We're told she was also pissed her carry-on luggage had been relegated to the back of the plane due to limited overhead space.

According to the police report, Ashenafi allegedly even pushed a flight attendant during her temper tantrum.

The airplane's crew kicked Ashenafi off the aircraft and cops met her on the jetway. According to the report, they immediately noticed the smell of alcohol on Ashenafi's breath.

Officers then escorted her off the jetway and placed her under arrest for public intoxication.

Several calls to Ashenafi were not returned.
