Five concerts to promote Ethiopia

Five concerts have been prepared by Symbiosis International Business with the aim of building the image of different cities around Ethiopia. The concerts have been organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and regional cultural and tourism offices, and are planned to take place in various cities around Ethiopia from September 28 to November 12. The goal of the concerts is not only entertaining its audience but also promoting Ethiopia’s traditions, heritage, tourist attraction sites and current development efforts.
“The first concert is going to be held on September 28th in Mekele town,” Fikru Aytegeb, event organizer at Symbiosis International Plc. said. “The day is special because it is also the 2011 Ethiopian Cities Day and the day of tourism,” he explained.  
The first concert is designed to highlight Mekele as one of the historical towns of Ethiopia. Its important historical sites include Atse Yohannes’s castle which was built in the 1870s and is now serving as museum. Gonder, Bahir Dar, Jima and Dire Dawa are the other selected cities for the event.
Manaye Assefa, general manager  of Symbiosis International plc, told Capital that the organizers have planned to broadcast the concerts in the five towns along with historical and cultural diversity documentary films about the towns on the international TV station, EBS, transmitted from the USA.
According to the organizers, the current program is the first phase of a much larger program that is planned to be undertaken in the near future. “The second phase will be held in and about selected African cities,” the organizers explained.
Symbiosis has planned to undertake different promotional activities to promote Ethiopian towns. It plans to distribute Magazines and CD’s showing the concerts and also to sponsor TV and Radio shows and programs that promote Ethiopian towns. The company has budgeted 3.2 million birr to complete all its promotional activities.
