Ethiopians dominate Soweto Marathon

by TINTSWALO BALOYI
JOHANNESBURG – ETHIOPIA athletes have dominated the just-ended 42km Nike Soweto Marathon strongly contested in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In the men’s race, Sintayehu Legese Yinesu crossed the line on 2 hours 17 minutes 55 seconds while Meseret Biru won the women’s category to assert the East Africans’ dominance.

Lesotho’s female duo Motlokoa Nkhabutlak and TebogoSello finished second and third respectively.

South Africa is becoming Biru’s favourite hunting ground.

She recently won the recent Cape Town marathon.

Kenya, Ethiopia’s long-running rival, also made its presence felt but it was Ethiopia that clinched the top spots in Soweto.
