Ethiopian Airlines orders 4 Boeing 777 aircraft

EVERETT, Wash. -- Boeing Co. said Wednesday that it has received an order from Ethiopian Airlines for four freight aircraft, a deal valued at about $1.1 billion.
The order for the Boeing (           BA - news - people ) 777 Freighters makes Ethiopian Airlines the first African carrier to order the twin-engine aircraft, Boeing said.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said the addition of the planes will significantly enhance the company's cargo-carrying capability and range.
"The proven operational and economical efficiency of these airplanes will reposition Ethiopian cargo in a stronger place to continue winning in this hypercompetitive market," he added.
The Boeing 777 Freighter can fly 4,900 nautical miles with a full payload of 225,200 pounds.

Boeing shares added 4 cents to $60 in aftermarket trading. The stock ended the regular trading session up 82 cents at $59.96.
