Addis Ababa, September 14 (WIC) – An Ethiopian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hailemariam Desalegn arrived in Cairo Wednesday for bilateral talks, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.
Ambassador Dina Mufti, Spokesperson with MoFA, told WIC that Hailemariam will attend a joint Egyptian-Ethiopian committee. The committee is expected to examine various areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The delegation will discuss on hosts of issues including on ways to attract more Egyptian investment to Ethiopia, Dina said.
Relations between the two countries improved after the collapse of former President Hosni Mubarak’s regime following a popular uprising in February.
A 48 member Egyptian public diplomacy delegation visited Ethiopia in May followed by a visit by the Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf the same month.
During that visit Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and Egypt’s Prime Minister vowed to strengthen overall cooperation between the two countries heralding a new chapter of Ethio-Egypt relation after a long strain under Egypt’s former leader.
Ambassador Dina said the two countries will also hold discussion on the drought situation in the Horn of Africa and issues concerning Sudan and South Sudan.
