MOUNT VERNON — Larry and Carri Williams caused their adopted Ethiopian daughter’s death, a Skagit County jury found Monday.

Carri Williams was convicted of homicide by abuse in Hana Williams’ death. The jury was not able to reach a decision on whether Larry Williams was also guilty of that crime, and the judge declared a mistrial for that charge.

Getaneh Kebede injured on Training

Ethiopia suffered an injury scare on Friday when striker Getaneh Kebede got injured in training.

The player who has been in great form scoring four goals in the World Cup qualifying campaign twisted his ankle at the Stade Massamba Debut in Congo Brazaville.

However coach Sewnet Bishaw was hopeful that the player would recover before the Satuday clash, "we hope it’s not a serious injury and our doctors will have to take a close look and monitor his progress before Saturday."

Ethiopia's running camp 'in the sky'-AFP

SULULTA, Ethiopia — On a cold and wet morning in the lush green hills high above Addis Ababa, Ethiopian track star Kenenisa Bekele circles a brick red track, slowly, steadily rebuilding his strength.
His muscular legs hit the ground in a quick rhythm. The only noise in the serene silence is his breath, piercing through the thin air 2,700 metres (9,000 feet) above sea level.

The world-record holder in 5,000 and 10,000 metres and triple Olympic champion, who has suffered from a calf injury for three years, is running at the centre he opened late last year to improve training conditions for Ethiopia's renowned runners.

Central African Republic vs. Ethiopia World Cup 2014 Qualifiers

Ethiopia will look to clinch the top spot in Group A when it faces off against Central African Republic on Saturday.
The top team in each group of CAF qualifiers clinches a berth in the third round of the tournament. In that stage, each group winner will be drawn into a two-legged playoff with another group winner with a berth at the World Cup Finals at stake.

Ethiopia currently holds a two point lead in the group, but a victory is essential if it hopes to move on to the next round. Second place South Africa has eight points and qualify with a win over Botswana coupled with an Ethiopian loss to Central African Republic. A draw would likely do no service to Ethiopia as South Africa currently has a +4 goal differential and would essentially tie Ethiopia with a win in points and win the goal differential tie breaker.

Ethiopia: '160-year-old man' remembers 1895 invasion

An Ethiopian reporter claims to have discovered the world's oldest living man.

Retired farmer Dhaqabo Ebba claims to have clear memories of Italy's 1895 invasion of the country. In an interview with regional Oromiya TV, he provided so much detail on the changes of power in his local area that reporter Muhammad Ademo has become convinced that Dhaqabo must be at least 160 - 46 years older than the oldest ever recorded man.

'When Italy invaded Ethiopia I had two wives, and my son was old enough to herd cattle,' he said at home near Dodola. He went on to recount his childhood eight-day horseback ride to Addis Ababa - a journey of a few hours today.

There is no way of verifying Mr Dhaqabo's age, but Muhammad Ademo notes that in an oral society like the Oromo, "every time an elder dies, a library is lost. Ebba is one such library from whom so much can still be preserved".

FIFA World Cup Qualifying Preview: Ethiopia’s Next Game Could Be Decisive

South Africa coach Gordon Igesund has urged his side to seize their second chance to keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ alive.

The Bafana Bafana must win their final group A game on Saturday against Botswana in Durban and hope group leaders Ethiopia fail to beat the Central African Republic in neutral Brazzaville. Ethiopia thought they had sealed their place in the play-off round in June after a 2-1 win over South Africa, but they subsequently saw their previous victor over Botswana overturned for fielding an ineligible player.

Igesund said: "We want Ethiopia to draw or lose, but we cannot worry about what happens in Brazzaville. All we can do is go out and win."

Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw has described his side's final game as "do or die" as they seek to maintain their hopes of qualifying for their first FIFA World Cup finals.
